Video Interaction Guidance TM (VIG) is a brief strengths-based therapeutic practice that promotes positive interactions in relationships. VIG supports people to realise their own hopes and goals, through empowered understanding of themselves and others.
I am an Accredited Video Interaction Guidance Practitioner.
I am currently enrolled on the AVIGuk Advanced Practitioner Pathway.
I am the Project Manager AVIGuk's Best Start for Life offer supporting trainee practitioners across England.
I have supported new mums experiencing post natal depression, anxiety and loss of self confidence grow their existing strengths and develop secure attachments with their babies.
Using VIG I have also supported parents who have lived in care trust their intuition in order for their relationship with their child to flourish.
I have particularly enjoyed helping parents with learning difficulties, autism and ADHD gain greater confidence in their abilities and relationships.
VIG can be used in variety of settings to support a variety of relationships.
Frequently used in perinatal and child mental health services to support parents, babies and children of all ages. VIG is also used in schools to support children and school staff when there may be behaviour difficulties. VIG can also benefit foster carers and adoptive parents or parents of children with disabilities develop attuned interactions.
VIG consists of cycles of capturing on film moments of attuned interaction between two people and reviewing the footage in detail to understand everyone's strengths in communication and interaction.
VIG Practitioners meet with parents, teachers and clients to discuss the change a person is hoping for.
This could be 'how can I help develop my child's self confidence?' or 'how do my actions support this child's school attendance?'.
Time is spent getting to know you and your child, when you feel comfortable a few minutes of you interacting, playing or talking with your child are filmed and shared.
