VIG for PArents and Carers

My experience

I qualified as an  Accredited Video Interaction Guidance Practitioner in 2022

I have used VIG to support parents and their children with a wide variety of needs and hopes.

These include:

  • New mums experiencing post natal depression, anxiety and loss of self confidence build secure attachments with their children.
  • Parents who have experienced domestic abuse as adults or during childhood gain trust in their parenting and management of difficult behaviours.
  • Care experienced parents seeking to trust their intuition and enjoy their flourishing relationship with their child.
  • Parents with learning difficulties, neurodiversity and mental health problems develop confidence in their abilities and relationships.
  • Child with SEND whose parents require support to understand  and appreciate their strengths in parenting.
  • Parents whose children have benefitted from Play Therapy sessions who wish to further develop their relationship with their child.

Whats Involved?

  • The first step of a VIG cycle is an informal discussion of your needs, concerns and hopes for your child, your family and yourself. VIG is for YOU, your thoughts, worries and successes are important and will be met with compassion, trust and appreciation.
  • Next we will arrange a time to record short clips of you and your child together. This can be wherever you feel comfortable, at home, outside or in my private practice. There will be plenty of time allowed to capture empowering moments.
  • I will then edit these clips and prepare them for our shared review.
  • The shared review involves looking closely at the edited recordings to understand the interactions taking place. We will discuss what you see on screen and the relevance for your unique hopes and goals. The shared review is purely strengths based, it never involves judgement or criticism. It can take place in person or virtually.
  • VIG usually consists of 1-3 cycles,  more can be provided if required.
